More than 18,000 kilos of waste removed, dozens of initiatives carried out along the Spanish Mediterranean coastline, and thousands of people mobilized through educational activities, volunteering, and scientific research. These are some of the main results of Mediterr\u00e1neo Responsable, the project promoted by TM Real Estate Group in collaboration with Cruz Roja Espa\u00f1ola and the Asociaci\u00f3n Hippocampus, which has become established as a model for ongoing, long-term environmental action.<\/p>\n
Since its launch, Mediterr\u00e1neo Responsable has evolved into a benchmark initiative in community-based environmental action, built on a comprehensive approach that combines environmental education, direct intervention in the territory, and scientific research, with a shared objective: to actively contribute to the preservation of the Mediterranean, one of the most valuable ecosystems on the planet.<\/p>\n

Mediterr\u00e1neo Responsable was created with the ambition of going beyond one-off initiatives, addressing environmental protection from a structural, collaborative, and knowledge-based perspective. To this end, the project is structured around three major complementary lines of action:<\/p>\n
Environmental awareness and education<\/strong>, through workshops, outreach activities, and educational programs aimed at schoolchildren, young people, families, and the general public, with a special focus on raising awareness from an early age.<\/p>\n Direct action in the field<\/strong>, through clean-up and waste characterization campaigns on beaches, seabeds, and coastal environments, involving volunteers, local organizations, and educational communities.<\/p>\n Scientific research and citizen science<\/strong>, focused on the sampling and analysis of microplastics, waste characterization, and the systematic collection of data to better understand the origin and impact of pollution.<\/p>\n In this area, the project has made it possible to complete the scientific characterization of seahorse populations present in the Mar Menor lagoon\u2014an important milestone that has enabled the technical justification to be submitted to national and regional authorities for the potential inclusion of the species in the Cat\u00e1logo Nacional de Especies Amenazadas, where it could be classified as \u201cvulnerable,\u201d pending the corresponding decision.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In the past year alone, hundreds of children have taken part in educational activities linked to the project, while clean-up, sampling, and analysis initiatives have been carried out at different points along the Spanish Mediterranean coastline, such as Alicante, Valencia, Murcia, Almer\u00eda, M\u00e1laga, and Baleares, reinforcing the territorial, collaborative, and replicable nature of Mediterr\u00e1neo Responsable.<\/p>\n This presence in different locations has made it possible to adapt actions to the characteristics of each environment, strengthen the involvement of local stakeholders, and generate a shared knowledge network around environmental preservation.<\/p>\n Among the project\u2019s most significant milestones is the intervention carried out on the coast of Valencia following the 2024 DANA, one of the most severe weather events in recent years. In particularly affected areas, such as the surroundings of El Perellonet, the Asociaci\u00f3n Hippocampus conducted a thorough inspection of the seabed to assess the environmental impact of the storm, and the findings were reported to the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n This action highlights the value of Mediterr\u00e1neo Responsable as an environmental support tool in emergency situations, providing scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and citizen mobilization in service of environmental protection.<\/p>\n Mediterr\u00e1neo Responsable is part of TM Real Estate Group Mediterranean Responsible Plan, aligned with its Corporate Responsibility Master Plan, which places the protection of the Mediterranean and its biodiversity as one of the company\u2019s strategic pillars.<\/p>\n According to its president, \u00c1ngeles Serna, \u201cthe Mediterranean is part of our identity as a company. This project demonstrates that corporate responsibility translates into ongoing, measurable actions shared with society, with a real impact on the territory.\u201d<\/p>\n From Cruz Roja Espa\u00f1ola, its president Mar\u00eda del Mar Pageo emphasizes that \u201cbeyond waste removal, the project has promoted environmental awareness and citizen science, helping to better understand the impact of microplastics on biodiversity and human health.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n For its part, the Asociaci\u00f3n Hippocampus underscores the project\u2019s scientific rigor and the value of collaboration among citizens, businesses, and institutions.
