Last February, we signed\u00a0three projects\u00a0in collaboration with the\u00a0NGO Rafiki Africa<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0with the aim of improving the quality of life of the people of Kenziga.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In this rural area of Uganda,\u00a085% of people live off agriculture<\/strong>, yet they do not have agriculture training. This is a problem because they have a special climate to contend with:\u00a0three months of rain followed by three months of drought.<\/p>\n

Added to this is the fact that it is not common practice to store water during the rainy months, which aggravates the problems during drier periods.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The idea of establishing the\u00a0Agricultural Training School<\/strong> arose so that both young people of professional training age as well as adults can learn to\u00a0make the most of the land<\/strong>, adapting to the conditions that arise.<\/p>\n

The aim is<\/strong>\u00a0to provide them with an education so that they can build a future using the area’s resources<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The school will consist of two buildings where they will be taught how to store water for use during dry months, how to treat it to avoid stagnation, and about waterborne diseases, etc.<\/p>\n

At TM, we take\u00a0education<\/strong> very seriously, considering it\u00a0fundamental for the proper functioning and development of a society<\/strong>. That’s why we promote initiatives that highlight the importance of education.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In addition to this project, the agreement signed with Rafiki included two other initiatives:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A microcredit programme for women<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This initiative aims\u00a0to empower women in the area<\/strong>, giving them the opportunity to undertake income-generating activities.<\/p>\n

It is planned to help more than 140 women over 3 years.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The creation of a water-treatment plant<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Drinking water is scarce in rural Uganda, where they have to rely on ponds filled with rainwater. This water turns stagnant, attracting mosquitoes that cause diseases like malaria.<\/p>\n

To combat this,\u00a0a water-purification plant is being constructed, consisting of<\/strong>\u00a0ten taps that will provide access to drinking water for the students and families of the\u00a0Rafiki Carmen P\u00e9rez Gonz\u00e1lez school.\u00a0<\/em>Construction began on the school in 2019 with TM financing one of its 8 classrooms.<\/p>\n
